Goblin DB-1
Web flasher

Move a goblin into your cube

Install the DB-1 Desk Buddy firmware on a 1.54" ESP32-C2 weather clock cube, straight from this page. Works in Chrome or Edge on a computer. The cube's CH340 auto-resets, so no buttons needed.

FIRMWARE v0.1.3

⚠️ Back up the stock firmware first

Flashing replaces the weather-clock firmware, and this page can't make a backup for you. If you might ever want the original back, save it first with esptool (pip install esptool, change COM5 to your port):

python -m esptool --chip esp32c2 -p COM5 -b 460800 read-flash 0 ALL stock_dump.bin

Keep that file private: it's the manufacturer's firmware and may contain your Wi-Fi password.

Weather cube, ready for a goblin

Install DB-1

Writes the bootloader, partition table and the goblin. Takes about a minute.

This browser can't talk to USB devices. Open this page in Chrome or Edge on a computer. Flashing only works on a secure (https) page.
Already running DB-1

Update over Wi-Fi

No cable needed: open the goblin's web page, go to Firmware update & system and upload the new goblin_buddy_vX.Y.Z.bin from GitHub. The Install button here works too, and keeps your Wi-Fi settings.

After flashing

Set up Wi-Fi

  1. Wait about 45 s. With no known network, the goblin opens a hotspot called Goblin-Setup-XXXX.
  2. Join it with your phone and open http://192.168.4.1.
  3. Pick your network. The goblin shows his new IP address in the top bar. Open that address for his web page.
Troubleshooting

Goblin won't move in?

No port in the list

Try another cable (some only charge). On Windows you may need the CH340 driver.

Prefer the command line?

Use prebuilt/flash.bat from the repo, or esptool with the files here: bootloader at 0x0, partition table at 0x8000, ota data at 0xf000, goblin at 0x20000.

Want the weather clock back?

python -m esptool --chip esp32c2 -p COM5 write-flash 0 stock_dump.bin
